About Us

A century-old Rosebery landmark repurposed as a premium destination for dining, retail, and business.

The Cannery Story

Since 1913, these halls have been a cornerstone of Rosebery’s industrial history. Originally the heart of Rosella’s production, our landmark has been restored to house a new era of enterprise. Today, The Cannery is a vibrant social and professional hub.

We bring together a diverse range of local businesses and services within an expansive, 11,000-square-metre warehouse designed to foster community. It remains a place where heritage architecture meets the needs of modern Sydney residents and businesses.

  • Diverse Business Collective

We support a wide range of local businesses, from specialty food and retail to professional services, fostering a balanced and collaborative environment.
  • Integrity & Respect

We are committed to a professional culture built on mutual respect, ensuring a high-standard and inclusive environment for everyone within the precinct.
  • Community-Focused

We provide a welcoming space for all visitors, including well-behaved dogs on leads, ensuring the precinct remains a peaceful destination for everyone.
  • Architectural Stewardship

We prioritise the sensible preservation of our 100-year-old building, ensuring its industrial character serves a functional and sustainable future for the Rosebery community.

The Evolution of a Landmark

  • 1913

    1913 – 1922: Early Beginnings

The Cannery stands on the historic grounds of the Rosebery Estate, once envisioned as a pioneering model for industrial craft. In 1913, the Rosella Preserving and Manufacturing Company transformed these halls into a hub of activity, marking the start of the site’s storied history as a center for local makers.

  • 1925

    1925 – 1926: Purpose-Built Construction

Designed by the prestigious firm Ross and Rowe, our iconic warehouse was commissioned in 1925 to house the expanding vision of the Rosella company. By early 1926, the factory doors were open and operations were in “full swing.” As the state’s primary production hub, the precinct became synonymous with the production of soups and sauces for over half a century.

  • 1963

    1963 – Late 80's: Transitional Era

Following the acquisition of Rosella by Unilever in 1963, the precinct entered a transformative chapter. In 1967, the landmark was purchased by The Smith Family, who repurposed the expansive warehouse as their charitable headquarters for over two decades. By the late 1980s, the site returned to its industrial roots, serving as a hub for Aristocrat Leisure and the celebrated industrial auctioneers, Geoff K. Gray Pty Ltd.

  • TODAY: The Cannery

Today, the site is unified as The Cannery, a premier lifestyle destination where industrial heritage meets contemporary soul. The precinct offers an unparalleled offering – from acclaimed culinary experiences and artisan spirits to boutique retail, holistic health, and professional workspaces – all thriving within the storied walls of our 100-year-old landmark.
